Disturbed wetlands and drainage ditches are particularly susceptible to invasive species such as common reedgrass (Phragmites australis) A Phragmites removal experiment was initiated in 2005 at Highstead to combat an expanding patch of this plant along the eastern edge of our pond. Individual stems are cut and treated with herbicide in late summer as described here.
